My Tryst with Destiny

By Raghav Kakkar ,MJMC 1

" Freedom is not even a word, its a feeling and feelings are subjective
and subjectivity is chaotic and chaos is not good"- Malay Firoze
1940's was an eventful decade. World politics was witnessing massive changes in existent social orders and  perhaps the biggest one was to come in the 7th year of the grand 40's when geographical boundaries were
re-determined. 14th August 1947, birth of Pakistan. This also implied partition of India. This partition was
hugely based on communal lines with both Muslim and Hindu fundamentalists harbouring their personal
interets entrenched with an ideologue, a well structured rhetoric which made this partition inevitable.
And it was not even remotely peaceful, over 5 million people were literally butchered. Suddenly  the animal  instincts in human beings were clearly visible. Both countries were in a mess.
Since then India has come a long way. Its intellectual and industrial output both has created grounds for this
nation to change gear from back seat to front seat, being the second fastest growing economy. The literary
rate is improving, the standard living conditions of a middle class is improving even the infrastructure of U.P
and Bihar is improving! The one thing that is not is the constant nurturing of communal ideology.
Over the years this country has witnessed events which defy the very fundamental basis of how India works-  DEMOCRACY. The policy of divide and rule employed by our colonial masters seems to stay here forever. Our  neo-colonial masters, the forever corrupt netas have taken over from their political fathers to practice
the same theory-divide and rule. As opposed to Nehruian socialism, we are still stuck with Hindu vs. Muslims. And the biggest irony of all is that the  nurturing of such communal ideas has been purely and entirely based on political momentum.
The Janta party, which rose as a revolutionary party against a tyrannical Indira Gandhi in 1975, was later
destined to put some very prominent blotches on Indian democratic functioning. The demolition of Babri
Masjid and the infamous Godhra  riots.
The second biggest and most powerful party of the largest democracy of the world models itself on the lines
of severe communal disparity. Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Muslim fundamentalist group formed in 1994 in
Pakistan, had its main objective in separating Kashmir from India. Many such organisations like SIMI are also present in the country which constantly  emphasize the fact that Muslims are ill-treated and all "kaafirs" should be killed.Other Hindu fundamentalist groups (read political parties) like R.S.S, Shiv Sena, M.N.S and the
father of all V.H.P perform similar functions against the Muslims. As a matter of fact Shiv Sena and its '
by-product' Maharashtra Navnirman Sena went a step ahead and modelled themselves on the lines of sheer
regionalism consisting of considerable violence which further accentuated the sense of division. Ironically
Mumbai or rather Bombay was not even a home for the marathis as late as early 19th century.
Did we really want a freedom which divides and cuts and slits through us so deeply? That is definitely not a
dream which the constructors of freedom saw, especially not Gandhi and Nehru. And this is definitely what
we want. One experience of division was enough to in still the sense of fear, anger, desperation and madness. Another communal/regional division, even if its  ideological would assassinate the original idea of freedom.
As Tagore had put it- where mind is without fear and the heads are held high.. where the world has not been broken up into fragments of narrow domestic walls..

FEEL PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN

By Pratiksha Chauhan ,BJMC 3

“Bharat humko jaan se pyara hai , sabse nyaaraa gulistaan hamaaraa hai”, a beautiful song enriches my heart to feel proud to be an part of a India and to blooms to say that I have my own country where I can stand freely.
India not only has a glorious past, but also a bright promising future. Its rich cultural legacy, and the myraid of social and religious groups living in harmony , is a unique example of ‘unity in diversity’.

Though having people of different religion, caste, creed and speaking different languages, they still live in perfect accord. This is due to the traditional tolerance that is engrained in its cultural heritage. While chatting with Divya Balyan, a student of BJMC she said for her being a part of India is a good feeling .Being with people who are so genuine and being with people of a motherland who are so generous makes me proud to be an Indian.

Sanjog Walter, a crime reporter of Aaj Tak said “It feels me proud to be an Indian. India has different traditions and culture which is different from western countries. Indian culture is as pure as water. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat”.

So, being an Indian is the feel of our own country and a part of the nation which gives love, humanity and peace. We need to identify our potentials and work together so that we could once again be an ever shining and inspiring country setting a bright path for rest of the world to follow.

ARE WE REALLY FREE?

BY SHREYASEE CHOWDHURY BJMC 3

“SWARAJ IS MY BIRTHRIGHT AND I SHALL HAVE IT”, this was quoted by Bal Ganadhar Tilak during India’s freedom struggle. After enormous blood shed, sacrifice, and struggle of our freedom fighters we have achieved ‘Swaraj’.Our freedom is a gift and legacy to us by the freedom stugglers.
Youth of 21st  century are having an open sky infornt of them for achieving success  and as a result India has become world’s second fastest growing economy, some more Milestones are to be achieved by us but instances like 26/11 are causing hindrance in the progress of our country. These instances rise an unanswered question that “Are we really free today?”

Acording to one of the senior faculty India is still not free  because there is unequal flow of money as a result power is still in the hands of  the elite classes . He also added that there are many people who earn only Rs 20 per day. Rich people are becoming richer and poor are becoming poorer..

Mr. Nitin Kapoor, alumini of ASCO Amity says “ India is superficially free, there is a need of change in mindset of people , equal opportunities should be provided to all ”.

HOW MUCH INDEPENDENT ARE WE?

By: Latika Arora ,Bjmc-3(a)

India got its independence from the clutches of British rule on 15th August 1947. It was this day when India’s tricolor flag was unfolded by Pandit Nehru on the barricades of the Red Fort at Delhi. Each and every patriotic soul watched with excitement and paid tribute to thousands of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom but are we really independent. We could be but this growing terrorism is chubbing and cutting down our wings.

It’s really surprising and sorrowful for a country whose history is embellished with the glowing accounts of gifted women like Gargi, Razia, Laxmibai, Indira Gandhi and Mother Teresa - more than 40% women are illiterate. Less than 10% find representation in Legislature and Parliament, more than 60% women in rural area are married off before they are 18.The average Indian female has only 1.2 years of schooling.

The first and foremost issue that occupies frequently is how independent we are in reality and whether we are really independent? Those who were oppressed, deprived and neglected in those days still remained the same. No change has appeared in their life style. The ’Sun of Liberty’ has risen for those who can move the stick and dominate over the less fortunate by any and all means.

Kashmir trapped in a nightmare from which it can't seem to emerge, a nightmare that has claimed more than 60,000 lives. The 26-11 attack makes us think that are we really independent.

Today we afraid to move out of our houses, we don’t trust anyone ,we are afraid of growing terrorism which is killing number of innocent without any reason but what are we doing to control it. Every time we step out we do candle marches but the result is still on wait.

Our day

By Anita Bhagat BJMC 1

India got its independence from the clutches of British rule on 15th August 1947 and is a Red Letter Day in the history of India. In 1947, our country becomes free from the long imprisonment of the British rule. Since 1947 every year with great joy and pride we celebrate independence day. It reminds us of attainment of freedom from British rule. The main function is  held at Red fort where the prime minister of India raises the flag and delivers his speech to the nation. The national flag raises on all government offices.

In history of Independence Day,Lord Mountbatten announced the partitioning of the British Empire into an India and Pakistan, on 3rd June, under Independence Day, India act 1947, at the stroke of midnight 1947, India became an independent nation, which was preceded by Pandit Jawaharlal Lal Nehru's spine chiller speech titled try get with destiny.

It went as "At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds ulterence. We end today a period of ill, fortune and Indian discovers herself again"

"Ask not what your country can
do for u. Ask what you can do for your
country".

                                                                                                          John F. Kennedy

Every year, Independence Day is marked by tributes paid to our freedom fighters

and flag- hoisting ceremoniesall over the country. It is not just another  holiday. It is is a reflection of our country's turbulent past and her journey since independence .It is a celebration of all her achievements and a time for all of us Indians to stir the patriot with in each one of us.

Therefore make always Independence Day a memorable one.

Does independence means Self rule?

By Shubhra Mukherjee MJMC 1

A mother is a human being who gives birth to their offspring and showers her amateur love. Independence means liberty, individualism. India is free since 63 years and somehow freedom made the people so released that even the relationships cannot bind them.

A 12 year old daughter of a poor mother ran away from her domicile giving lots of soreness to her family. Reason was unidentified by her folks. After two years she came back with her so called beloved with a scandalous F.I.R that her father used 2 behave badly with her and her mother was a silent viewer. Because of the girl’s report the mother, the father and other relatives were in detention for last one month. They had to pay twenty thousand bucks to get rid out of the cell.

Do a democratic India means emancipated from the love of our guardian??? Many parents are barren and pray every bit of time for a child. But after knowing this occurrence do parents will ask for a child???? In our country we have six fundamental rights, mortifying parents comes under which one? The moral, ethics of a country is losing ground in the modern culture. We need to preserve it. India is recognized by its ethnicity and it should be maintained .

ARE WE REALLY INDEPENDENT?

By Amila , BJMC 1

“I still remember the day when my son lost his life in 26/11 blast. Government promised to pay some amount but the question is “Is rupee a substitute of life?”

“I am 14 but I can’t study, can’t play as my in laws don’t like it”

“They still beat me; torture me as my father couldn’t give them a car”

“I am 10, but I have to work day and night in a tea stall to get some money as my family depends on me”

These are answers of some questions which itself is a big question. They are bound with the walls of cries, agonies, pains and it can all be reflected through their words. SO HOW CAN YOU TELL INDIA IS INDEPENDENT? India is chained with corruption, child labour, dowry, child marriage. SO HOW CAN YOU TELL INDIA IS FREE? Freedom can only be real if it’s freedom from those who think different. SO, ASCO think different, do different, break the walls, break the chain and make us proud and confident to say “WE ARE INDEPENDENT”
